Hello Dare to Run Friends...
Last Saturday the CGBC Missions committee assisted in serving cyclists riding in "Ride for the Red" as they passed through Stamping Ground. Cyclists were biking to raise money for the Red Cross, and we just wanted to show some kindness and offered fruit, trail mix, cookies, brownies, drinks, sunscreen, etc as they stopped to rest for a few moments. They were all very grateful, and this time also provided us the opportunity to tell them about Cedar.
On Saturday May 23, 2009 there will be another ride- the Horsey Hundred. Carey Burford and I have considered taking part in setting up another "rest station" (for lack of better description), but we need to know we will have adequate support to 'man' the station and to stock it with lots of goodies (cyclists went on and on about the homemade cookies and brownies). This race may have as many as 2,000 cyclists, so the time we would need to be available would be longer than last Saturday (we were only there for 1 hr 45 min). We would also need more snacks- cookies, brownies, etc. SO- if you would be willing to help in any way- please let me know. It was a really fun outreach project, something your kids could maybe help with ( at least 9 and up, I'd guess). You can email me or give me a call. Boss lady, Judy Taylor, has threatened, er. . . asked me to post about Robbie and Crystal Rogers wedding shower tomorrow evening. This will be held in the women's Bible Study class and will immediately follow Judy's lesson. There will be cake and punch but no games or anything like that. We're simply doing gifts. They both have had households before this but everyone could use new things (like I could use some new towels but that's another story. . .). Anyway, bring your gifts to the middle classroom and stick around for some cake and fellowship. They're not really in any class anymore but Robbie was a part of the Dare to Run a while back. Let's try and get them back in class together. This shower would be a great outreach opportunity.

Youth ALIVE

Today is club day and early release day at the high school and to say the least - it's a little crazy. However; I just walked through the cafeteria on my way back out to my classroom in the trailers and received a huge blessing. I had tears! There was a HUGE crowd of kids and people were at the door passing out free chocolate milk and rice crispies. Now, that's not why I'm so excited - even though they really hit the spot this morning. The reason I am pumped and had to get on my computer the second I walked back into my class (it's my plan, don't worry) is the gathering of people was for the club youth ALIVE - a Christian club. One of my students stopped me at the door and said, "Look, Ms. Traci Jo. Isn't this awesome?" When I asked her what it was all about she told me it was a new Christian club this year. She said "they're probably here because it's free and we give them free stuff, but they're here." I told her that salvation is a free gift from God so it seemed the right thing to do. She agreed and we talked about regardless of the reason so many students attended, they were going to hear the gospel. I saw a Trinity AofG church van and I assume they were a huge part in this. I want to challenge us to see if we can help, too. I am going to find out who the club sponsor is and talk to him/her to find out their goals for this club. I also want to talk to you- Bryan - about finding a way our youth/church can step up and offer help. Maybe the youth band can perform later this year when they are ready.

Oh well, the kids have arrived and I must go. I just wanted to share my blessing with all of you!

My grandmother, Maxine Trent, is still very very ill. She has had surgery on her hip, has been given a lot of blood and has had fluid leaking into her stomach. Last night they found that her colon has a perferation and she is in surgery right now. Please continue to pray for her.

My grandma fell down in her home around 4am and wasn't able to get up or get to a phone. She was just found by my aunt a little while ago meaning that she has been down for about 11 hours. The ambulance has taken her to the hospital in Evansville (where she lives) and my parents are on their way there now. Please remember Maxine Trent in your prayers today.

I just thought that I would update the blog to mention the cookout this weekend at Troy and Stacy's in case someone didn't get the email but checked the blog. Here is the email Stacy sent...

Our class is having a cookout this Saturday at 6 p.m. at our house. We'd ask everyone to bring a dish and any lawn chairs you may have. We'll be providing the dogs, buns, condiments, and drinks. How's that sound?? :)

Any and all children are welcome as well. We'll provide a slip-n-slide, bubbles, chalk, balls of all sorts for them too, etc. And the adults can enjoy bad mitten, hill-billy golf, corn hole, basketball. . .whatever your heart desires. :) We just want a relaxing time for all to enjoy.

If you need directions just add a comment and someone will respond and tell ya! Hope to see everyone this Saturday! :)

I guess it's my turn to speak since it's Stacy, me, Stacy, me and sometimes Steve:) Stacy called me from Myrtle Beach this morning before church and taunted me with sounds of the ocean. That girl can be so mean! Anyway, she wanted me to talk to our Sunday School class about a get together at her house on July 26th. We got to class a little late so I didn't mention it, but what do you all think? She wanted me to see what everyone thinks of the date, what would be a good time to have it, a menu and what everyone wants to do for fun (cornhole, volleyball, etc). We'll be on vacation next week (if you all want me to taunt you early in the morning with sounds of the ocean, just leave your phone number) so if you all could maybe talk about it in Sunday School class or leave some suggestions here that would be great.

Say a pray for us also as we will be travelling Sunday for vacation. Maybe my family will come back not so albino-ish:)

Hello my long lost Sunday School Class!

How about we start planning a get-together the end of July or that very first week of August? School starts so early this year so maybe the very end of July would be better, eh? Any comments, suggestions? Let's not let this be any burden on Maxine or Rob due to the Fourth of July shin-dig they host so well. One of us can host it. My house isn't the biggest but my back yard is great for hosting if the weather permits. So I'm open to that if you all are. Come up with a set date and place (just tell me it's my house or not) and we'll get the potluck list going. I never get to chat with you guys during class so it's up to you all to spread the word there. :) We keep talking of having one so I thought I'd just push the door open a bit more. :) Okay. . comment!!

Just a reminder! VBS is next week! Please say a prayer for each and every child that comes through the church doors. Please pray for each and every teacher and helper that is working. Pray that an opportunity will arise to lead a child to the Lord. I don't know about you all, but I have wonderful memories of Vacation Bible School. I pray that each child leaves with not only good memories, but a relationship with God.

Since no one else has volunteered...I guess the playdate will be at my house next week on TUESDAY June 17th, starting around 11am. For those of you who don't know- I live on Switzer Road, right across the road from Jessica and Ricky. We'll have the baby pool set up, but we might have to go in rotations or something, because all of those babies won't fit in our little pool (unless I borrow Jessica or Carol Ann's pool too...we'll see about that)- so bring swimming stuff, sunscreen, etc. Please let me know if you can make it, so I will know how many to prepare for.

I wanted to share just one of the many answers to prayer that we have received. Justin has been doing Vision Therapy since September to correct his lazy eye and some other vision problems. We went back for a checkup this morning and his Vision Therapist was amazed at his progress. She and the eye doctor both did exams on him and were stunned. They knew he would progress and be fine, but they never expected him to do this well. I know that God has touched his eyes. We don't have to patch his eye anymore at home and we only have to do therapy once a week. We go back in 3-4 months for another checkup to see backing off of the therapy goes. Praise God for answered prayers!

How amazing were the voices of Melanie, Julie and Kelly today??? That was such a great song and I know the Lord was pleased with your hearts. I'm glad I could witness it. And Steve.. what can we say about Steve that hasn't already been said?? :) Talented on the guitar, can play any song you want him to play and totally makes the singer feel at ease. Sadly, he types slow. HAHAHAHA!

No, seriously, girls, you all were wonderful today. Thanks for being faithful in using your talents for the Lord.

Stamping Ground Elementary had their award ceremony this morning. It was wonderful to look around the crowd of students and parents and know so many faces. It's nice to see so many church members sitting in the bleachers. It warms my heart to have AWANA kids run up to me or wave from across the gym. It's nice to sit with friends and laugh and play with each other's kids. It blesses my heart to be able to stand and say The Pledge of Allegiance and to be able to say "One Nation, Under God" in a school when so many schools don't say it anymore.

I guess what I'm saying is that on this sweet day that my son graduates from 3rd grade, it is a blessing to be raising my children in a small community where our church and God's love is seen throughout.

Okay, guys. How good did Stacy do singing today? I was so touched to see her get out of her comfort zone to sing a song that she and her dad used to sing. And then to add Bailey in also was just too much:) I know that was hard for her to do, but she did an awesome job. Steve did a great job on the guitar too. Good job guys.

Today was a wonderful day. Celebrating a man who is worthy of celebration. A pastor who has stuck through the good times and bad times. A man who has walked the walk and talked the talk. A man who loves God with all of his heart. We are truly blessed to have Brother Taylor as our pastor.

Hey guys. The trainer for our WOTM initially said they'd get volunteers for our childcare. Now they said they aren't able to round folks up to come that Saturday and watch our children. We'll need a few adults/teens for the older children and a few for nursery as well. I was thinking if we knew folks from nearby churches that would be willing to come watch our children for those few hours, that would be great. Our church will pay them something and of course, they can eat our lunch as well. Any ideas on who we could get? Anybody have friends that would be glad to come? We would probably put the older children (school age) in the gym to run and play if it isn't nice outside and the babies would stay on the nursery wing in the old building. Anyway. . daddy put me in charge of finding childcare and I wanted to see if anybody knew of others that would help. Email me if you have any ideas. It is a week and a half away!! Thanks. ~ Stacy

I just wanted to ask for prayer for Bryan and I. He is really struggling at his job. This week has been rough on him, not only has he worked between 12 and 13 hours every day, but he has had a few people try and get him in trouble at work. Satan has really been messing with him this week and he has really been down. He has also applied for several jobs and just can't seem to get a new one. I keep trying to tell him that maybe God doesn't want him getting a new job, because He has something so much better in store for us.
We are both really missing being in the ministry full time and we are trying to be patient and wait for God to answer. Thanks so much for all of your prayers, they really mean a lot. We have never loved a church more than the one we are apart of now.

Do you ever think this may be the last day? Or do you just go to sleep thinking everyone will wake up fine tomorrow? I am sure most of you heard about Steven Curtis Chapmans 5 year old daughter Maria. She was killed when her 17 year old brother backed into her in their driveway. How many times do we back up in the driveway and take for granted their is noone there? I know I do. I don't know SCC, I do like his music but it still is very sad especially when you see this little girl. I guess it don't help when you have a little girl that is going to be 5 in a little over a month. I know we all have little kids, just imagine what their family must be going through. Could you even imagine how hard it must be on the 17 year old kid? I couldn't.

Even though we know that little girl is in heaven with our Father, for some reason that still doesn't make it easier. Lets all pray for their family, but lets not stop there. Lets pray for all of our families and that we may spend time with our kids instead of just sending them off to play or watch TV. What happens when we wake up one morning missing one of our kids, I pray we never have to go through that but we never know. God Bless You guys and just looked at how cute little Maria was. SC

Just wanted to thank you all for praying for us, for little Averie specifically. I took her back to the doctor yesterday, and all is well. He kept looking and looking in her ear- making me nervous- but he said he could find no signs of any hole or perforation in the ear. He says she is healthy and super happy. God is so good, so gracious. For the first time in a very long time we are all healthy at one time. Thanks again for interceding on our behalf!

Summer Play Group anyone?

I love what I do, but any teacher will tell you that they have one thing on their mind at this time of year....SUMMER BREAK!!!! Kelly, Carrie, Traci Jo...am I right? I started to make a list of all the fun things that me and the boys are going to do on our time off...not much is on it :( Sooo.... I'm thinking of starting a play group for any of you who will be staying at home with your little ones this summer (I know many of you stay at home all year long). I was thinking that we could take turns who would host the play group or we could even meet at the playground... options are unlimited. The little ones can play, the mommies can socialize...we're all happy!
I suggest that we meet Monday or Tuesday (whoever is hosting for the week can choose the day) from 10:30-12:30? Feel free to add your feedback on day and time suggestions. I thought this time would not interfere too much with lunch and afternoon naps...also it wouldn't make us get up and at 'em too early in the morning.
If you are interested let me know. I'll take the first week...June 9th, 10:30, my house. See me for directions if you need them. :)

Hi Ho there, neighbor! I just wanted to reiterate what Daddy said these past two Sundays about June 7. That is the Way of the Master class. I'm more than excited about this. Training others to evangelize is like major important to me. (Did I just sound like a Valley girl??) Anyway, please, everyone, clear your schedules. My girls have a softball game that day but I want to tell you we won't be going to softball that day! This is top priority to us. Have you all ever seen Kirk Cameron on TV walking the streets witnessing to strangers? Well, this is the same thing. Kirk is the co-founder of WOTM. The man leading this at our church is T.J. Wilder and he is married to my friend from college, Kelly. She gave a testimony to me about what WOTM has done in her life. She has been a Christian most of her life but since she's been trained in WOTM, she's shared her faith ten times more than all the years before. How cool is that!

Are you heading to Heaven empty-handed? There can be nothing more important than this training course. . learning how to share, as a way of life, your faith in Jesus Christ.

Please remember to sign up tomorrow night or Sunday. Childcare will be provided. No worries. Spread the word too. Teens can take this course as well. It is one day. Not even an entire day. How much is a soul worth?

Prayer Request

Our lives are so busy and we all have so many things on our plate...believe me I know! However, if you get a spare minute this week, would you please say a prayer for my grandma, Maxine Trent? She is not doing so well. Her blood pressure keeps dropping to a very dangerous low and she's having a lot of heart/chest pain. She has a long history of heart problems and is just exhausted all the time. While you're at it, if you could also say a prayer for my dad, Clancy. Have a great week and thank you.

How precious are these pictures! Can you see her smile as she is coming out of the water? Ashlee Jo was so excited about getting baptized on her 8th birthday. It is a day we will never forget. We had family and friends come to watch and she felt like the princess she is. We are so proud of her - I just can't tell you how awesome it is to watch your child accept the Lord and just bubble over with enthusiasm about getting baptized. Please pray that she grows into a mighty woman of God that spends her life serving Him!

Hey guys. I had a little accident today with a knife and had to go to the emergency room and now have 4 stitches between my right pointer and middle finger. I normally wouldn't post this as a prayer request but I am going to be leading worship Sunday Morning. I am going to talk to a friend tomorrow about playing acoustic guitar and I will just sing. Having my first and second fingers taped together I am not sure if I can hold a pick. I took Justin back to the doctor today for a re-check of his kidneys. Everything looked great! So we just go back in two months to check everything again. The doctor said this could come back at anytime, so we are just to watch him. Thank you all for your prayers!

Little Request...

Today I had a real rough day (although we had a good night sleep-wise). I got a really bad headache around 11 or so this morning and it just wouldn't go away all day. Even my neck and shoulders just hurt bad. Well, this afternoon it finally got real bad and I had a fever too so Jonathan came home and took me to the Urgent Treatment Center. It turns out that I have Mastitis (an infection of a milk duct) and a bad tension headache to go with it. So, the dr gave me some sort of shot in my hip to help take the edge off the pain and some antibiotics for the infection. I'm not contagious at all and nothing I'm taking can hurt Caleb, which is good. So, if you think of me just lift up a little prayer that the pain in my head would go away (it really is worse than labor pain because it's just a constant in the front near my eyes and at the back/base). It's not life threatening or anything but it makes taking care of Caleb difficult. Thanks in advance!

Have you ever felt like you were stuck in bubble gum? I mean your feet, hands and everything- just stuck- unable to do anything, unable to move off of the couch, STUCK?! Well- my house must be full of Big League Chew or something- oh, germy/contagious Big League Chew. Yes- not only is my house full of sticky chewing gum, it is also evidently full of germs since we cannot all be well at once.
This morning as I was changing Averie I noticed that her ear was full of gunk- I will not elaborate, but it was nasty. Not much grosses me out about my girls- but this was - uhm...yucky to say the least. SO I packed us all up and headed to the doctor-for the third time this month- (God bless Cindy Popp's soul for taking Lindsey at the last second)- and found out Averie has a perforated ear drum due to infection and fluid was leaking out of her ear. This is nothing that will cause long-term damage, just requires antibiotics and ear drops. Today Lindsey finishes her bottle of Amoxicilan(however it is spelled- you'd think I'd know by now since all of us girls have been on it this month) and now Averie starts her very own bottle.

So I said all of that to ask that you say a prayer on our behalf- I know so many of you have bigger issues going on in your life and probably think I'm being silly even mentioning this, but I'm ready to fill my whole house with bleach to kill whatever it is that keeps making us sick. All winter, one thing after another, after another. SO I'm not complaining- I'm just asking for a little intercession from my friends. I know God has used these past few months to teach me about persistence, about calling on Him in all things, about being thankful for the amazing church we have and what an honor it is to be a part of this exciting time we are experiencing at Cedar. Now I guess I'm learning to ask for help, thanks to Stacy's good example. :) So, any prayer you can offer for us, we would really appreciate.

Ashlee Jo - Praise!!!

Ashlee Jo wanted to talk to Brother Taylor after church yesterday. She wanted to be saved and then baptized next week on her birthday. Brother Taylor and Ashlee Jo talked for about 20 minutes and she was so excited. She told us her 8th birthday was going to be the best birthday ever.

Brother Taylor said he should be able to baptize her next week. Will you guys pray that he will be able to (and if there is a nun out there that knows him well enough maybe you can put in a good word for her). I can't tell you how excited she is to think she will be baptized on her birthday. Thanks and everyone have a great week. SC

I was thinking that it might be a good idea for us to get a list together of everyone's info...address, phone numbers, etc. With all the new people I would say that the majority of the class doesn't have most people's info and it could definitely come in handy. Maybe one Sunday in class we can pass something around and email it out to everyone, or just start an email with people's info...just a thought. :)

Hello?????? Am I the only one who posts on here anymore????:) Anyway, I thought I'd give yet another update on my Justin. After a scary night with a him getting a couple of symptoms that they told us to look out for, we took him back to the doctor today. Amazingly his blood pressure was perfect, the protein in his urine was just a trace, and even though the same amount of blood was there, his urine looked much clearer. The doctor was very encouraged. She said that if his urine stayed the same through the night and into tomorrow, then she would just see him at the end of next week for a checkup. If his urine turned dark again, we would need to go see the kidney specialist. I am happy to say that so far, his urine has gotten even clearer. Praise God! I am so thankful for him finally getting better. This strep infection in his kidneys could cause renal failure and all kinds of kidney problems, so we are very thankful that he is on his way to a full recovery. Please pray with me that he continues to get better and doesn't have any set backs. I know that God is in control and is taking way better care of him than I or any doctor could.

I wanted to give an update on Justin. He still has dark colored urine, so we called the pediatrician this morning who called the kidney specialist. He said that they've been seeing children with atypical symptoms of this strep infection. He said that since his blood pressure has been good and he is feeling fine and no swelling, we are to give it 48 more hours to clear up. If by Wednesday his urine is not clear, we are to call and schedule an appointment with the kidney specialist. So again, I ask for your prayers for him. Thank you all so much.

Thank you all so much for praying for Justin. We went back to the doctor today and the levels in his blood were low, so that's good. He still had the same amount of blood in his urine today that he had on Wednesday, but at least there was no more. We are to watch him all weekend and if he still has discolored urine on Monday, we are to call the doctor and she will consult the kidney specialist on what to do. If it is clear, then we will go back in two weeks for a re-check. His doctor said he will be checked periodically to make sure his kidneys are okay.

Again, thank you all for the prayers. Please pray that his urine is clear by Monday. He would be SO humiliated to know that I'm talking about his urine to other people:)

Please be in prayer for my son, Justin. He came home from school on Monday complaining of his throat and neck hurting. We took him to the doctor that afternoon and found out he had strep throat and an infected lymph node. Now, the strep infection has moved to his kidneys causing him to have inflammation and pass blood in his urine. He had blood tests done today and we will find out on Friday if his levels are high enough to send him to a kidney specialist. He is feeling much better than he did on Monday and the doctor seems to think he'll bounce right back from this. Please pray that this is the case and that his blood tests come back fine. Thank you all.

Troy's Grandfather

Troy's grandfather, Troy Shepherd, passed away Monday evening. The services are at Johnson's Funeral Home, visitation Thursday from 4 to 8 and the funeral at 1 p.m. Friday. Thanks for all the prayers. It has been a bitter-sweet week at the hospital. The praise is that Papaw died on his own. Neither daughter had to make the decision to pull life-support or not. God was gracious to us. And we all were around his bed when he left us. Mary and Lisa (the daughters) are doing okay. . .both strong. But again, I ask you to remember Troy's aunt, Lisa and her husband Todd. They need the peace of eternal life. I reckon that is it. Thank you all again for the prayers. We'll see you soon. ~ S.

Prayer Request

Stacy asked that I post a blog so that everyone can be in prayer for their family. Troy's grandfather (Troy Shepherd) is in the hospital and is not doing well. The family has a lot of decisions to make in the next few days. The family (including Troy and Stacy) have been at the hospital day and night and are exhausted. They are trying to understand all of their options, but the bottom line is that he is not sedated and yet isn't responsive, hooked to a ventilator and not trying to fight it. Every other person on a ventilator fights it and MUST be sedated. He had an EEG and it showed some type of brain activity but there is still no response. It isn't his wish to be on a machine, so the family has great decisions coming up soon in a day or two.

Please be in prayer for this family in their time of need. We all know Troy and Stacy and how much family means to them. They are relying on God heavily, but as their brothers and sister in Christ, we need to lift them up so that God will renew their strength.

Hey everyone, I just found out my aunt is having a triple by-pass at this very moment. She had a heart attack on Monday and had to have a stint put in an artery because it was 100% blocked. They have now found that her heart is only working at 25% and even with surgery will only improve to 40%. We KNOW God can do what he wants despite what doctors say. Please be praying for my aunt. Her name is Dee Suarez. I am not confident in her salvation - which is my greatest prayer request. She will be in surgery for the next 3 hours and then we may know more. This surgery was not planned so I know it is serious. Please take a moment and pray for her and my family.

Did you know that Brandi Cundiff will be having her gallbladder removed this Wednesday? They are doing the surgery as out patient across from St. Joe at Lexington Clinic. Anyway we should put this on the blog to start meals for them. She should come home Wednesday night and be off work for a week or so. She is having this done while they are still covered under BJ's insurance.

Caleb Jeffrey Gagel was born at 4:59 p.m. and weighs in at 7 lbs. 10 oz. and measures 20 inches long. Mom and baby are both doing wonderful! He is a cutie! They will be coming home on Saturday and Stacy is taking them food that day. Maxine will be working on a list for Sunday School so that people can sign up to take them meals.

I think it's time for another Sunday School Outing. What do you all think? I had a blast at our Christmas Party. I don't think I've laughed that hard in a long time! I haven't had the chance to get to know a lot of the new people with me not being in Sunday School. I just need everyone to know that I'm not as bad as my husband.....okay, maybe I am:) What do you all think about planning some sort of outing?

Well, Steve, you say Cedar is a blessing. . .let me tell you (from a life-long member) you guys are blessings too. Like a breath of fresh air, you are. All of you that came together as a group. Well, maybe not Steve Schureman. .haha. But since he's a package deal with Kelly Schureman, we'll make due, eh?? (KIDDING, Schureman!) But truly. . .we love you all and are glad you're a part of our big Cedar family now. And I also agree with you regarding Julie and her singing. I wish she'd sing every Sunday but she won't. :) She is, however, singing at my funeral. And from the pains my body is experiencing tonight, it won't be long!! All have a great week!

I have been meaning to write this for the last couple of days but haven't gotten around to it. I have been so busy (ask Traci she can tell ya), like Julie said with dishes, diapers, I can't remember what else Julie said.
Speaking of JULIE, I wanted to catch up with you after church Sunday but you snuck out on me. You did an amazing job on that song. I guess that is the first time I have heard you sing by yourself, I was really impressed and you can ask Traci what that means when you see her again. God has really blessed you with a great voice and you need to use it more often. I will start working on those songs right away, lol.
Traci and I really like Cedar Grove. I think all the trouble with a couple of churches we have had in the past were for a reason and one of those reasons was to get us out to Cedar Grove. Everyone out there has been a blessing to us in a different way. We really appreciate you guys. I hope your not crying, I am sure Traci will when she reads this. Thank You and God Bless.
